Possibly the most subdued in decoration, the Grand Salon or (Gold Room), is the major drawing room for the second floor of the mansion. The walls are painted in muted shades of beige, highlighted with pale moss and adorned with gold-leaf and gold damask upholstered panels. Between the upholstered panels are oil paintings depicting exotic botanical scenes with birds. The overall effect is dazzling when the immense crystal and bronze chandelier and wall sconces are lit. Shimmering in the light are numerous antiques including the large gold-leaf marble-topped center table.
